On Wednesday, June 14th, Granbury celebrated Flag Day for the first time in Historic Granbury Square.

In the parking lot of the Hood County Courthouse, many people gathered by a 15 by 25 foot flag that flew between two trees to celebrate Flag Day. This event was hosted by Friends of Memorial Lane and the flag was provided by award-winning filmmaker and historian Gary Foreman, Hood County Judge Ron Massingill explained. Massingill and Mayor Jim Jarratt both provided their stories of meeting Foreman before handing him the microphone.

This flag is considered the first representation of the flag and was designed by Founding Father Francis Hopkinson. The flag has thirteen red and white stripes and thirteen six-point stars, Foreman explained. Foreman finished his speech by encouraging the community to combine imaginations and ideas for the benefit of the community.

“Thank you all for being here on Flag Day,” Foreman said.
