Holmgreen, Shelton Honored By Granbury Optimists

Granbury High School seniors Brock Holmgreen and Gracie Shelton were honored as the Young Texan and the Young Tex-Anne for September 2019 by the Granbury Optimist Club. The two were recognized at the club breakfast on September 10, 2019.

Brock Holmgreen – Young Texan

Parents:  Ron and Andee Holmgreen

Extracurricular Activities:  swim (team captain, Student Leadership Council, GHS Student Council (student body president, class president), Workforce Industry Training, FAST swim club, Junior Leadership Granbury, Student United Way

Honors/Awards:  swim – Academic All-State, honorable mention All-State, team MVP (10th and 11th grade); National Honor Society; Hugh O’Brian Youth program participant; Texas Boys State; Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy; Navy Summer Seminar

Community Service:  volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, GHS Student Council – Pride and Patriotism Committee; GISD Convocation and Teach4Gr8ness program

Church Activities:  active at StoneWater Church children’s ministry service and Elevate service; Elementary Camp and Family Camp counselor

Job:  previously worked at Stumpy’s Lakeside Grill

College or Future Plans:  attend any of the United States military academies

Extracurricular Activities:  softball (four years), basketball (two years), volleyball (one year), Key Club (vice president), Junior Leadership Granbury, Foreign Language Club

Honors/Awards:  ranks first in the GHS Class of 2020; softball – 2nd team All-District (junior), JV Offensive MVP (freshman); volleyball – Fighting Heart Award (freshman); National Honor Society

Community Service:  volunteer for Santa’s House, Foster’s Home for Children, Hood County A&M Club, Paluzy River Children’s Advocacy Center, Granbury Girls Athletic Boosters

Job: poolside server at DeCordova Bend Country Club

College or Future Plans:  attend Texas A&M University to major in biology and later medical school to become a pediatric radiologist
