Students Eligible For Free And Reduced Lunch Can Still Apply For Food Benefit Provided By The Texas Health And Human Services Commission

Families impacted by COVID-19 school closures now have until August 21 to apply for a one-time food benefit provided by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The agency extended the application deadline for the federal Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer, which offers $285 per eligible child. Families may use it in the same way Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits pay for groceries. Eligible families include those with children who lost access to free or reduced-price school meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) due to school closures.
