Somervell County Judge Danny Chambers and Somervell County Health Official Dr. Steven Vaseck from the Glen Rose Medical Center joined the K-HITS “Wake-Up Crew” Thursday morning to give an update on the COVID 19 virus and the opening of businesses in Somervell County. Dr Vaseck confirmed that out of all the Somervell County residents, that there were no COVID 19 cases in the county to date. Out of all the 254 Texas counties, 187 of those reported 25 cases or less, which is almost 75% of the state. Of those counties, 109 reported 10 or less cases. 46 Texas counties have reported no COVID 19 cases at all.

Since Somervell County has no COVID 19 cases, and per Governor Abbott’s decree, any county that has less then 5 active cases can open businesses at 50% capacity compared to the 25% in other counties. Judge Chambers informed listeners that Somervell County will follow those guidelines and that all retail and restaurants will be allowed to open back up. However, Hair Salons, Barbershops, Gyms, Tattoo Parlors and Bars will have to remain closed until the Governor allows opening of those businesses. Mike from the “Wake-Up-Crew” expressed how many people, do not understand the reasoning for Hair Salons to remain closed as they have strict sanitary guidelines that they have to follow and that customers could sit in every other chair. Judge Chambers said he understands the frustration and has heard from many of those business owners. Dr. Vaseck believes the problem is the concern of the waiting area and not so much the stylists area. However, Vaseck believes that the Governors office will more then likely figure this out quickly, and hopefully soon allow these businesses to re-open.

Judge Chambers expressed his appreciation to everyone working together to keep the citizens of Somervell County safe along with the working relationship he has with Dr. Vaseck who he said that they have kept in constant communication day and night during this health emergency.

K-HITS will be talking with different County officials during the “Wake-Up-Crew” morning show 6am-9am over the next week, as businesses continue to open back up.
